The Ballarat Mechanics Institute is Ballarat’s oldest cultural and educational institution, listed on the Register of Historic Buildings. The statue of Minerva atop the building acknowledges the aims of the Institute as she was considered to be the virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, crafts and the inventor of music. Ballarat is a beautiful provincial city in Victoria. The wealth of the gold rush left an enduring cultural and archetectural legacy. It’s one of my favourite cities in Australia. - Lyall
