For the most part this tumblelog isn't a beacon of erudition however occasionally I post serious entries about healthcare and the image of nursing.

I have a surprising number of fashion and chaps related posts.

Holy shit… I missed my 3 year anniversary

delbertshoopman:

Well, I’ve been in LA now for 3 years. Here’s a video that kind of sums up my 3years… even though it’s “lost footage” I think it plays well as a celebration for 3 great years in LA!

I wanna share a tip with anyone moving out here or living out here that lands a job in the entertainment biz:

HOW TO EAT FREE IN LA, WHEN WORKING IN THE BIZ:

When you first arrive into LA, get a Vons/Ralphs card… FIRST FUCKING DAY!! OK? Once hired I’m sure you will be getting tons of coffee’s, going on prop runs, getting people lunch, running stupid errands, and swallowing a little bit of pride. Don’t give up… everyone usually has to do all of this.

OK, lets eat free… & get some free booze shall we?

*For most jobs out here involving food your going to have to go on runs to either Vons/Ralphs… The cool thing about these place’s is if you forget your “CARD”, you can bring your receipt in later & get cash back for all the “Savings” you missed out on.

Keys to pulling this off: Always ask for 2 receipts (1 for you, 1 for the company), make sure that you go back when you get out of work on the same day, and try to alternate store visits/locations.
I normally pulled in $15-$20 every other day when doing this… during mine & Dave’s first couple of months out here, it helped feed us. & we needed it.

*For some of us, we get lucky right away and were dropped into a major show… like myself. On my show we had a prop dept… and as some of you may or may not know… you can’t drink real alcohol on television. Normally the prop dept needs “empty bottles” of booze… how do they get those empty bottles of booze you ask? well they buy real bottles & dump out the good stuff.

Keys to pulling this off: Take a look at the weekly happenings on the rundowns of the show. Then make sure to save all your water bottles from the day/week. Let the prop dept know that you’d like the booze, deliver empty bottles to them so they can dispense the booze in them, & BOOM… you’s got yourself some juice.
Couple the booze you get with craft service beverages for mixers

*Here’s the simple one… STEAL EXTRA FOOD FROM CRAFT SERVICE!!!! All craft services have Cups of Noodles!!! I know I know… welcome back to college. But hey that’s shits free!!

*Also, If you have to get lunch for people on a daily basis… look around at what’s close to your offices. Then, call and bargain with them… “If, I bring you _____ in biz guaranteed weekly, would you be willing to give me free food?” I know it sounds lame, but hey… It’s free, it’s worth a shot, and all they can say is no. Then you’re on to the next place offering the same thing. Line up a bunch of places… Variety is awesome.

I know some of these tips aren’t awesome… but feeding yourself is a must, and these are the way’s I’ve found to do it for free. Good luck to everyone trying to make it in L.A.

iloveu all, thanks for a great 3 years.
